What is Making Connections?
Making Connections is a social group for young adults with mild cognitive disabilities who live in the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area. The program was established to help individuals combat loneliness and develop the interpersonal skills they need to lead more dynamic, rewarding lives.

What Happens at Making Connections?
Making Connections holds two meetings each month. The focus of one is social. Activities include holding dances, watching live performances, seeing sporting events live, and recreating at indoor game facilities. The second meeting is a discussion group. Here, participants talk about a range of topics, including communicating more effectively, self-advocacy, and time management.

How to Join
Each member joins Making Connections with a sponsor, who is typically a friend, relative, or service provider agent. The sponsor acts as a mentor and facilitates the individual's participation in Making Connections.

Individuals are required to complete an application packet, which includes a member information form, a sponsor's agreement, a legal release, and a payment agreement, in order to join Making Connections. The initial fee for membership is $75. Thereafter, the annual renewal fee is $25.
