Adult Residential Services
Residential Services for Adults offers support to individuals 21 years of age or older to live in the community as an alternative to institutionalization or remaining in their parents' home. Individuals served may own or lease their own home or live in an apartment, townhome, condominium or single-family detached unit owned or leased by CSS.

CSS owns fully-furnished homes in upper Montgomery County. Each unit serves as the residence for one, two or three individuals. Housing arrangements are determined by individual preference, compatibility, common interest, age, and need.

CSS uses a variety of staffing ratios that are based on each individual’s needs in order to provide quality assistance with numerous activities of daily living, including housekeeping, personal hygiene, clothing care, money management, and shopping, as specified in each person’s Individual Plan, or IP. Assistance is also provided in the areas of socialization, communication, telephone use, and age-appropriate leisure activities in the home and in the community. Positive behavior programming is provided, as needed, to develop and encourage socially appropriate behavior. CSS behavior programming is person-specific and is designed by experts in non-aversive behavior interventions.

Every individual served by CSS has an active habilitation program or is active or employed during usual work hours. Each contributes fees for room & board and supplies based on his or her ability to pay.

The Adult Residential program also includes quality social, recreational, and leisure programs administered by CSS' Therapeutic Recreation Department. The mission of the TRD is to provide inclusive and specialized recreational opportunities that enhance the quality of life for persons with physical and developmental disabilities. Special emphasis is placed on providing programs that directly reflect individual choice and allow for self-determination in the distribution of recreational resources. The CSS Therapeutic Recreation program works collaboratively with partner providers in its delivery of certain programs. Adults may participate in the following therapeutic recreational programs:
