Fnu Kitty Ambang A Espe Awanchiri

When the pandemic hit and the schools shut down I didn’t work for weeks. I stayed at home and I was scared to do anything, even to go to the store. But I didn’t hesitate when they asked me to come back to work. I love my job and I’m very comfortable here. I really like children and I’m glad I have the opportunity to help.

I like working with this population - this job is about the passion for the work. It takes a lot of patience and understanding. Above all you need to remember that a person with a disability is a person, just like us and even if a person has a special need that doesn’t make them less deserving.

COVID has changed this job a lot. Normally one of our main objectives is to teach students how to cope in the community but COVID has changed how we all interact in the community and forced everyone to isolate from each other. Some of the students favorite activities was going to meet new people, to go shopping and to see different things. It can be boring to sit for long hours and it can be difficult for them because they don’t have the liberty to do a lot of the things they want. But, we’re all learning. We’re getting used to our new schedule.
